The Edo Tokyo Traditional Performing Arts Festival will open in January 2026.
This three-day pre-event will kick off the festival with talks and demonstrations showcasing a wide variety of traditional performing arts. From traditional Japanese music and dance rooted in Edo townspeople culture, to Noh

which flourished
as ceremonial music for the samurai class, to , leading performers and commentators will unravel the history and appeal of each art form in an easy-to-understand manner.

October 24: The prosperity of Edo Japanese music and dancing


Edo-period Japanese music, such as Nagauta and Joruri
, developed alongside Kabuki In addition to rich singing, musical performances, and dance demonstrations, this

through talks by Seiji Kasai, a commentator on classical performing arts Experience the profound depth of Japan's traditional performing arts.

October 25th: Nohgaku, its charm and history passed down to the present day

Nohgaku was established as a ceremonial music under the patronage of the Edo Shogunate.
The essence of Nohgaku, which has survived through the ages and continues to live on in the present day,

a talk and performance of Shimai and Maibayashi (a specific part of Noh)
by Noh performer Takeda Munenori .

October 26th: The history and appeal of Kabuki

The first episode will
be a dialogue between kabuki actor Nakamura Kyozo and classical arts commentator Kasai Seiji, exploring
the history and appeal of kabuki, led by the three Edo theaters, and the rise and fall of the theater.
In the second episode, Tobaya San'emon Company will be invited
to delve deeper into the appeal of the Kuromiso music that adds color to the stage.
The world of kabuki will be unraveled from the perspectives of both actors and musicians.
